I am a Unix programmer with 10 years experience. I am a good communicator with excellent problem solving and analytical skills. I am interested in using my skills to develop software as well as learning new skills and new technologies. I am currently using C/C++/Java/CORBA in a Unix environment, developing network-monitoring software.

Employment History

  • IBM Senior Software Engineer
    March 2001 – Present
    Working in the Integrations development team, I am responsible for both new developments and product maintenance in the applications that collect data from monitored devices, formatting the data for display in a database. The various applications use many different methods to retrieve data from the devices, including tcp sockets, log files, third party APIs, CORBA interfaces and web services. In this role, I have gained experience in all aspects of Unix programming, as well as some Windows programming, shell and perl scripting and C/C++/Java/CORBA programming. I have also been responsible for the design and implementation of a new build system for our products, based around the ClearCase source control package.

  • British Airways Systems Programmer
    July 1998 – March 2001
    Worked on two projects, one enabling BA’s partner airlines to use separate subsystems of the BA booking system and the other improved reliability of the overall booking system and reduced outages. Prior to that, I was involved in maintenance of TPF programs, including fixing bugs and some development work, after completing a 3-month training course involving Assembler and TPF.
