I entirely agree and bearing in mind how well Djouru and Koscielny played and the effort Park put in it's quite possible we might have won with younger hungry players rather than the three stooges.

I believe we are basically singing from the same hymn sheet.

I had intended to write a review of last season but it was so obvious it wouldn't have taken enough words to make it worthwhile. Instead I will write a review of how I see things for the next few seasons as far as AFC is concerned.

Assuming we don't go down the road of a sole billionaire owner which I desperately hope we won't, our pre season expectations will be to finish in fourth place having fought off Liverpool and Tottenham although I'm not convinced about the latter. We know we can't and never will match the squads of the “big 3” but that doesn't bother me. If players such as Clichy, Nasri and Fabregas would rather make occasional appearances for a “big” club and collect their mega wages then good luck to them.

My hopes for each season are that now and again, we win one of the cups. All three are, in the end, knockout tournaments so there is always a possibility that with a favourable draw and on the day any team can win such as Birmingham City!

At the end of the day we are true Arsenal supporters and at the start of the season 11 players will take the field at St James Park, Newcastle wearing those famous red and white shirts and will have my 100% support because that's what being a proper football fan is all about. Yes there will be many times when we will complain about certain players and the manager but I have been doing this all my life and this is all part of the Arsenal supporting pleasure.

I could write more about the way the game is changing for the worse, the crazy transfer fees and wages but what is the point as nothing will ever change in the near future.

So finally I agree, let's enjoy the summer close season, ignore any transfers and rumours and look forward to another season of supporting the greatest club in the world.

Well, there is that ... but you know I have to play devil's advocaat ... the three biggest mistakes of the night were made by players and they definitely all did have an impact on the result, no quibbling, no doubt, no conjecture. In fact all led to a goal. One a classic error from a defender, OG, one an unbelievable error from the Arsenal captain and the last a stupid foul that resulted in a penalty.

Arguably, Kosh El Knee could have been given a second yellow, arguably Barca could easily have had another penalty and the referee could not have sent RVP Off. Essentially, the ref made about 3 mistakes, every single player on the pitch made more than that, only Fabregas admitted it.

I agree entirely with your comments and know that Eboue,Squilacci,Denilson,Diaby,Rosicky and Bendtner have to be allowed to leave for their sake and ours.I am also slightly concerned as to why both Fabregas and Nasri are playing so poorly at the moment.I think a small defeat on Saturday would not be a bad thing and let's put everything into the league title chase.........?with Almunia in goal!!!!!!

I believe Silvestre is a classy defender compared to Squilacci.
I also started to get a little concerned when he came on for the second half but said to myself "don't be stupid" how could we throw away a 4 goal lead!!!!

I hear what you say and certainly wouldn't argue with the financial stats. However my point is that Arsenal are,and since the ninetee thirtiesalways have been, one of the biggest and most famous clubs in the world and I am only comparing them to the other "big" clubs who can only see massive spending on players and wages as a way of remaining a big club.I believe Arsenal's wages are below the other "big" clubs and thus far they have stuck to their principles as far as finabcial matters are concerned.Whether this will always be the case remains to be seen.

Hmmm, Simon and I had a discussion about this the other day. In the context of the traditional top 4 and especially the nouveau top 4, Arsenal are relative angels. But in relation to the rest of England, in wages terms, I'm not sure it stacks up. Better than Chelsea and Man City? Definitely. A beacon of light? I'm not convinced.

Cesc Fabregas gets paid half a million pounds every month! Arsenal do still have the fourth highest wage bill in the country. Arsenal do also pay non-first team teenagers significantly more than most teams in order to keep them there. The amount of money Arsenal spend in wages in relation to its turnover is higher than Man Utd.

The one thing Arsenal don't do is pay silly transfer fees but that is largely because they recruit kids and spend more on them. Their model is far more sustainable though, you can't argue with that and it is something to be proud of.

I suppose there must be something about the way the game is played that encourages defensive play. It worked in the World Cup too - the more defensive teams tend to do well.

Come on Sepp, time for some new rules!

Probably.
